Brand review

jinchan curtains, reviewed

One of the biggest curtain names on Amazon, built on a convincing linen look at a price real linen cannot touch. Here is what you are actually getting.

By Janet H. · Last updated November 5, 2026 · How we choose

Close-up of a loosely woven natural-colored curtain beside a plain white panel, daylight picking out the slubs in the weave

jinchan is one of the handful of curtain brands that dominate the first page of Amazon results, and the reason is consistent: almost everything they sell is built around a linen-look weave - a slubby, uneven, natural-colored polyester that reads as linen from across a room and costs a fraction of what real linen does. If you have ever bought a curtain described as farmhouse, cottagecore or modern rustic, this is the texture being described.

This page is not a lab test. It is a read of what the range actually contains, which lines solve which problem, and the two places where the labeling needs translating before you order. The honest headline: the light-filtering linen lines are the ones worth buying, the sheers are good value, and the blackout lines need reading carefully because the word blackout is doing more work in some listings than in others.

Drape & Dawn earns a commission from qualifying purchases made through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend. Full disclosure.

The material

What the linen look actually is

Polyester, woven with deliberately irregular yarn so the surface has the slubs and the slight unevenness of a natural fiber. It is not linen, it is not a linen blend in most of the range, and the listings generally say so if you read past the title. That is not a criticism - it is why the panels cost what they do, why they wash without shrinking, and why they do not crease the way linen does. If you want the texture and not the laundry, the substitution is a good one.

What you give up is weight and drape. Real linen hangs heavily and falls into deep, irregular folds. A polyester linen-look panel is lighter, and it tends to hold a straighter, shallower fold, especially in the cheaper weights. On a short window you will not notice. On a tall window with a long drop, you will, and the fix is either a heavier panel or more fullness - which the curtain length guide and how many curtain panels do I need both work through.

Criteria

Reading the range

Light filtering is the core of the catalog

Most of what jinchan sells is light filtering or semi-sheer: the panel softens the light and breaks the sightline without darkening the room. For a living room, a dining room or a home office, that is usually the correct product, and it is where this brand is strongest. It is not privacy after dark - with the lights on inside, a semi-sheer panel shows far more than people expect. Privacy at night without losing daylight explains why that reversal happens and what to do about it.

Blackout, room darkening, and the gap between them

This is the one place the range needs care. Some listings are titled 100% blackout and describe a lined or coated construction. Others say room darkening in the body while the title uses words like blackout or thermal insulated. The two are not the same product and they do not produce the same result in a bedroom. Read the listing body, not the title, and if the word used there is room darkening, expect dusk rather than darkness. Blackout vs room darkening is the page that defines the line properly - it applies to every brand, not just this one. And if no fabric is getting the room dark enough, blackout curtains vs window film covers the approach that does.

Header type: grommet, back tab, rod pocket

jinchan sells the same fabrics in several headers, and the header changes the result more than the color does. Grommet panels slide easily and hang about an inch off the wall, which leaves an open gap over the top of each ring - fine on a light-filtering panel, a real problem on a blackout one. Back tab panels hang flat against the rod with no gap above, which gives a cleaner, more tailored line and is slower to draw. Rod pocket gathers tightly and is essentially fixed in place; it suits sheers and short panels. Grommet vs rod pocket vs pleated compares all three on coverage and on how they look.

Panel width, which is where most disappointment comes from

Most jinchan pairs are sold as two panels of around 50 inches wide. That is a standard width, and it is also why people order a pair for a wide window and find the curtains stretch flat across it with no gather at all. A curtain needs roughly twice the width of the window in fabric to look like a curtain rather than a sheet. On anything over about 50 inches of rod, order two pairs. This is not a brand-specific flaw - it is the single most common curtain-buying error there is - but the 50-inch standard makes it easy to walk into.

01 — Best overall

Linen Curtains, 84 inch, light filtering, grommet

jinchan

The panel the rest of the range is built on: a plain linen-look weave in natural beige, light filtering rather than sheer, on a grommet header in the standard 50 by 84 inch size. It is the most useful single product the brand makes.

Who it’s for: A living room, dining room or office window where you want the light softened and the texture of linen without the price or the laundry of it.

The catch: Light filtering means exactly that - it will not darken a bedroom, and with the lights on at night it stops hiding much. The grommet header also leaves an open gap above each ring, so it is the wrong header to choose if darkness is the goal.

02 — Best blackout in the range

100% Blackout Linen Textured Curtains, 84 inch, grommet, gray

jinchan

The line where the listing claims full blackout rather than room darkening, in a plain gray linen-textured weave with a thermal description. If you want this brand's look in a bedroom, this is the construction to look for.

Who it’s for: A bedroom or nursery where you want the linen texture carried through from the rest of the house, and you need the window actually dark rather than dim.

The catch: A grommet header undercuts a blackout fabric - light comes over the top between the rings and around the sides no matter how good the weave is. Mount it high and wide, or add a wrap-around rod, or the fabric's performance is wasted.

03 — Best patterned

Beige Floral Linen Curtains, 84 inch, farmhouse back tab

jinchan

A printed floral on the same linen-look ground, on a back tab header that hangs flat against the rod with no gap over the top. The print is the point: this is the cottage and country end of the range, which is the deepest part of the catalog.

Who it’s for: A room where the curtain is decoration as much as function - a dining room, a guest room, a cottage kitchen - and where a flat, tailored hang suits better than a gathered one.

The catch: A back tab panel is slow and slightly awkward to draw, so it suits a curtain that mostly stays where it is. The print is also a commitment that a plain weave is not; it will date faster and it will not suit every room you later move it to.

04 — Best sheer

White Sheer Curtains, 84 inch, coastal print, rod pocket

jinchan

A true voile sheer with a subtle coastal print, on a rod pocket header that gathers tightly. It is the layer you hang when you want the daylight kept and only the sightline softened - or the inner layer under a heavier panel.

Who it’s for: A bright room you do not want to dim, a window overlooking a yard rather than a street, or the under-layer of a two-rod setup with a heavier curtain outside it.

The catch: A sheer gives no privacy at night and essentially no glare control - it diffuses the view rather than blocking the light. Rod pocket also means it is not meant to be drawn, so treat it as a fixed layer.

05 — Best for a tall window

Linen Curtains, 90 inch, light filtering, back tab

jinchan

The same light-filtering linen weave in a 90-inch drop, which is the length a tall window or a high-mounted rod needs and the one most ranges skip between 84 and 96 inches.

Who it’s for: A rod mounted close to the ceiling, a tall sash window, or anywhere an 84-inch panel finishes embarrassingly short of the floor.

The catch: A longer panel in a light fabric shows the drape limits of a polyester linen-look weave more than a short one does - it hangs straighter and with shallower folds than real linen would. More fullness helps; a second pair helps more.

Buying guide

How the brand compares

Against the other high-volume Amazon curtain names, jinchan occupies a clear position: texture and pattern rather than engineering. NICETOWN and Deconovo build their ranges around blackout construction - triple weaves, sewn liners, coatings - and their catalogs look like performance products. jinchan's catalog looks like a home decor range that happens to be sold online, and the light-filtering linen weave is the thing it does better than almost anyone at the price.

That shapes where it belongs. For a bedroom that genuinely needs to be dark, start with a brand whose whole range is built around that, or add a liner behind a panel you like the look of - best blackout curtain liners covers the add-a-liner route, which lets you keep a decorative face fabric and still sleep. For a living room, a dining room, a nursery you want bright, or anywhere the curtain is part of the decoration, this is a strong default.

The brand is a decorating range first and a performance range second. Buy it for the first.

Practicalities

What to expect on arrival

Panels in this category arrive folded in a flat pack, and a linen-look weave shows those fold creases more clearly than a smooth polyester does. They hang out over a few days, and a steamer removes them in minutes; a hot iron directly on the face is the one thing to avoid, because the texture flattens and does not come back. Care instructions across the range are generally machine wash cold and low heat - which is one of the practical advantages of the polyester over genuine linen.

Color is the other thing worth managing. Natural, beige, taupe and greige all photograph similarly and arrive looking different in different light. If the color has to match something, order one pair first rather than a houseful.

Where this page sends you next

If you are comparing brands rather than lines, best curtains on Amazon is the cross-brand roundup and covers the ranges this one is competing against. If you landed here for a specific room, best curtains for living room and best curtains for bedroom both start from the problem instead of the label. And the brand's kitchen tiers - the short cafe-length panels - are covered in best cafe curtains rather than repeated here.

Methodology

How we assessed this

This is a read of the brand's current Amazon catalog: construction and fiber content as stated on the listings, opacity class as described in the listing body rather than the title, header type, panel dimensions, and care instructions, together with the failure patterns owners report across the range - panels narrower than expected for a wide window, creasing out of the pack, and semi-sheers being less private after dark than buyers assumed. We have not lab-tested these fabrics, we publish no light-transmission figure of our own, and no star rating or review count appears anywhere on this site. Full criteria on the methodology page.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Are jinchan curtains real linen?

Generally no. The range is built on a polyester woven with irregular yarn so it looks and feels close to linen, and the listings say so in the fiber content. That is why the panels cost what they do, wash without shrinking and do not crease the way real linen does. What you give up is weight and the deep, irregular drape of the genuine fiber.

Are jinchan blackout curtains actually blackout?

It depends on the line. Some listings describe a 100% blackout construction; others say room darkening in the body while the title uses looser language. Read the listing body rather than the title. And remember that a grommet header leaks light over the top regardless of how good the fabric is, so the header matters as much as the fabric claim.

How wide are jinchan curtain panels?

Most pairs are two panels of around 50 inches each. A curtain needs roughly twice the window width in fabric to gather properly, so one pair suits a standard window and a wide window needs two pairs. Ordering a single pair for a wide opening is the most common reason these panels look flat and stretched.

Do jinchan curtains wrinkle?

They arrive folded and the linen-look weave shows the creases clearly for the first few days. They drop out with time, and a steamer clears them in minutes. Avoid pressing a hot iron directly onto the face - the texture flattens and does not recover.

Are jinchan curtains good for a bedroom?

The light-filtering lines are not - they dim a room rather than darken it. For a bedroom, either buy one of the lines whose listing describes full blackout, or hang a separate blackout liner behind a panel you like the look of, which keeps the face fabric and gets you the darkness.

How do jinchan curtains compare to NICETOWN?

Different purposes. NICETOWN's range is built around blackout construction and reads as a performance product; jinchan's is built around a linen-look texture and reads as a decorating range. For a dark bedroom, start with the former. For a living room where the curtain is part of the room, start with the latter.
