Drape & Dawn publishes editorial guidance about window treatments — curtains, blinds, shades, rods and mounting. It is general information for a general audience, written to help you make your own decision. It is not professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified installer, an electrician, a building inspector or a landlord’s permission.

Recommendations are made on the basis described on the methodology page: published specifications, materials, fitness for the problem a page addresses, and patterns in owner feedback. We do not lab-test the products we recommend and we do not claim to. Specifications and availability change without notice, and you should check both on the retailer’s listing before buying.

Anything on this site involving tools, drilling, ladders or working at height is done at your own risk. Fixings must be appropriate for your wall, your window and your load, and a bracket that pulls out of the wall can cause real injury and damage. If you are not confident, use a professional.

Two specific points we take seriously enough to repeat here: corded window coverings are a strangulation hazard for young children and should not be used in a nursery or a child’s room, and window insulation film seals a window shut for the season, so it must not be used on any window that is a fire escape route.
