Editorial policy

Drape & Dawn is written by Janet H. and published by Janet Media Group. One person writes every page. There is no editorial team, no rotating contributors and no “expert panel” — where a page cites a measurement or a standard, it names the source rather than attributing it to an unnamed authority.

Recommendations are made independently of commission. No manufacturer or retailer pays for inclusion, for placement, or for a particular ranking, and nobody outside the site sees a page before it is published.

In practice that means the honest answer sometimes earns us nothing. Several pages here conclude that the reader does not need a new product at all — that the problem is a rod mounted too narrow, a desk in the wrong place, or an air leak that needs a strip of weatherstrip. We publish that conclusion when it is the right one, because a site that only ever recommends buying something is not worth reading.

Where a cheaper option genuinely beats a more expensive one for the problem a page is about, the cheaper one is the pick. Commission rates are not a factor in selection and never have been.

• No fabricated testing claims. We do not lab-test the products we recommend and we will not imply otherwise. The methodology page sets out exactly what selection is based on.
• No invented reviews or testimonials. There is no verified customer review data for this site, so there is no testimonials section anywhere on it.
• No star ratings or review counts. Neither ours nor a summary of anyone else’s presented as a score.
• No prices we cannot verify. The site has no live price feed, so it shows no prices. If that changes, every price will carry a visible date and stale figures will be removed automatically rather than left to mislead.
• No awards, tenure or credential claims beyond what is true and stated on the about page.

Where a page states a measurement — a light-blocking percentage, a UV block figure, a bracket load rating — it is either a manufacturer’s published figure or a named third-party source, and the page says which. Pages that rely on specific external material list those sources at the bottom with links.

Where something is a general principle rather than a cited figure — how convection works at a cold pane, why an inside-mounted shade leaks at the edges — we explain the mechanism so you can check the reasoning rather than take our word for it.

• Product roundups are reviewed on a rolling basis for availability and for changes to the specifications cited. Discontinued products are removed rather than left up.
• Guides and comparisons are reviewed when the underlying advice changes, or when a reader points out something we have got wrong.
• Every page displays a “last updated” date in its byline. That date reflects a genuine review of the page, not an automatic build timestamp.

Factual errors are corrected promptly. Where a correction materially changes the advice on a page — a specification we cited wrongly, a recommendation that turns out not to fit the case described — the page carries a visible note saying what changed and when, rather than being quietly edited.
