About Drape & Dawn

Almost every site about window treatments is filed by product category — curtains here, blinds there, shades in a third place. That is how a shop is organized, and it is not how anybody arrives at the problem.

Nobody wakes up wanting a cellular shade. They wake up at 5am in June because their bedroom is bright, or they cannot see their screen at 3pm, or their living room faces a sidewalk, or the seat by the window is too cold to use in January. The product category is the answer, not the question — and filing everything by the answer makes the site harder to use for the person who has the question.

So Drape & Dawn is organized by the 6 problems people actually turn up with: blackout, glare, privacy, drafts, renter-safe hanging, and the rods and measuring that everything else depends on. There are 66 pages behind those problems, plus indexes for browsing by room and by product type when that is what you want.

Janet H. owns Janet Media Group and is the person behind Drape & Dawn. She is hands-on with the research and the recommendations here: the reading of specifications, the comparison of materials and mounting options, and the long trawl through owner feedback looking for the failure that keeps coming up. Drape & Dawn exists because most window-treatment advice is filed by product category, and nobody arrives at a window thinking in product categories. They arrive with a bedroom that is too bright at 5am, a screen they cannot see for glare, a window that faces a sidewalk, or a landlord who will not allow a drill. Every recommendation on this site is selected against the criteria published on the methodology page, and the same page says plainly what those criteria are not based on.

Every article, roundup, comparison and guide on this site carries the same byline, because one person writes it. There is no editorial team, no rotating cast of contributors, and no “expert panel”. Where a page cites a measurement or a standard, it names the source.
